South Indian Special Egg Kurma Chettinad Egg Korma 2020

Welcome to Mealsndrinks. Today I am going to share one of my favorite South Indian style Egg Kurma. Egg Korma is very popular in South Asia, made of spices, yogurt, coconut, meat, vegetables, and dry nuts. South Indian dishes recipes inspire the regular egg kurma that we prepare in our home.

Egg Korma has a thick gravy prepared by braising the eggs, the tomato puree, and the coconut mixture in low flame. You can serve this Egg Kurma with Rice, Briyani, Idli, Chapati, Paratha, Puri, Uttapam, Idiyappam, dosa, and many more dishes. You may serve this sumptuous Chettinad Egg korma in Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Korma – History and Preparation

In the 16th of Century, Korma has Originated from the Indian Subcontinent. The Mughals are well known for their unique enrich dishes like white Korma, Shahi Paneer, Shahi Tukda, Dum Briyani, and many more. The Egg Kurma is from Mughal Cuisine. The Korma is generally prepared for Mughals like Shah Jahan and his guests.

The Kurma is generally prepared by the cooking method Braising, where the meats are sauteed at high flame and then kept in a pot at low flame to cook the Kurma. The pot is completely sealed by the dough and cooked slowly, allowing to cook from all sides. Read more at Wikipedia

How to make South Indian Egg Kurma in the home?

The Egg is itself a special ingredient that can be consumed in breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Like Rice, Egg is also a staple food cooked in every home twice a week. If Egg Kurma is fried well, you will lick your fingers trust me.

The main ingredients like tomato, generally prepare egg Korma gravy, onions, coconut paste, and dry nuts paste, increasing its taste and nutritional value. When the gravy is ready at last, we add fried eggs and simmer it at low flame.

Remember one thing Chettinad Egg Kurma is incomplete without coconut powder and dry nut paste. You may increase the consistency of the gravy by adding more tomato puree.

A sumptuous South Indian-style Egg Kurma that is loved all over the world. There are many Egg Korma recipes on the internet, but this Egg Korma Recipe will tempt you to bookmark this Web-page. The heavenly combination of coconut powder, tomato, onion, and dry nut paste will fill your mouth with sweet, mildly spicy and tangy flavor. 



  • 8 Eggs
  • 2 Onion
  • 2 Tomato
  • 2 Green Chili
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste 
  • 34 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 tbsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander powder
  • ½ tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped fresh Cilantro/Coriander leaves

Whole Spices

  • Bay leaf
  • 2 Star Anise
  • 34 Cloves
  • 2 Cinnamon Stick
  • ½ tbsp Fennel seeds
  • ½ tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 Cardamom

For Grinding

  • 8 tbsp Grated Coconut 
  • 2 Green Chili
  • ½ tbsp Fennel seeds
  • ½ tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 15 Cashew Nuts

Spices for making Egg kurma


1) Place a pot on the burner, add water in it. Add eggs and allow it to boil for 10 minutes. When the eggs are cooked, turn the Flame off. Cool the Egg, then remove the Outer-shell from the Egg.

2) In Grinder, Add Grated Coconut, Cashew nuts, Green chili, Cumin seeds, and Fennel seeds. And grind it to a fine paste by pouring some water into it.

3) Take a Pan, Pour Oil, then add whole spices (Bay leaf, Star anise, Clove, Cinnamon stick, Cardamom, Fennel seeds, and Cumin seeds). Saute well.

4) Add Chopped onion and ginger garlic paste and saute well until ginger garlic paste smell goes out. After that, add Tomatoes cook it for 5 minutes.


Frying Onion with Oil in Pan5) Add Garam masala powder, Turmeric powder, Coriander powder, Red chili powder, and salt. Cook it until the tomato gets mushy. Stir it time to time to avoid sticking and overcooking of spices.

6) After that, when the tomato melted, and spices are well sauteed. Add the grinned Paste in it. Cook it for 5 minutes. Now Pour water as per the gravy consistency. Mix well.

7) Now add boiled eggs and stir it carefully. Mix it wisely and allow it to cook the dish in low Flame (Simmering) by covering it by the lid.

8) When the Consistency of Egg Kurma is right, turn off the Flame. Garnish it with finely chopped fresh Cilantro/Coriander leaves and serve it hot.

Making EGG Kurma Recipe


The Quality of eggs should be Good.

You may fry the eggs after boiling it. Many people Prefer it.

Saute the ingredients well it will increase the flavor of the dish.

Use fresh Coconut.
